Developed in 1997, this modernized orthodontic treatment uses a progressive series clear aligners in place of brackets and wires. These aligners are removable orthodontic appliances that apply force to the teeth, causing them to gradually change their position. Because of their discreet appearance, they are a highly popular adult orthodontic treatment. However, they also work very well on teenagers and young children.

Did You Know?

Even though Invisalign® uses aligner trays instead of brackets and wires, it has been found to be just as effective as traditional wire braces in correcting misaligned teeth. Additionally, retention rates after orthodontic treatment are similar to those of traditional metal braces.

What can I expect when undergoing orthodontic treatment with Invisalign® at Massih Orthodontics?

When undergoing orthodontic treatment with Invisalign® at Massih Orthodontics, you can expect to begin with a consultation discussing your individual case and proposed treatment plan. A special oral scanner will then be used to obtain information about your mouth to fabricate your aligners.

During treatment, aligners must be worn for a minimum of 20-22 hours a day and should only be removed when eating, brushing, or flossing. Each aligner is worn for about 1-2 weeks before switching to the next aligner. You can also expect to visit your orthodontist about every 12 weeks so they can monitor your progress and give you the next few aligners.

How do I care for my aligners?

Caring for your aligners is pretty simple. You will need to brush your aligners daily, but avoid using excessively warm water as it can distort their shape. You will also want to brush your teeth after meals to keep your aligners clean. When your aligners are removed from your mouth, they should be stored in their protective plastic case. Never wrap your aligners in a napkin because they will very likely end up being accidentally thrown out.

How long does orthodontic treatment with Invisalign® take?

The length of your orthodontic treatment will depend upon your individual case and the proposed treatment length will be discussed during your consultation. On average, orthodontic treatment with Invisalign® lasts about 12-24 months.

What can I expect after completing orthodontic treatment with Invisalign®?

After completing orthodontic treatment with Invisalign®, you can expect to be fit with a clear retainer that will maintain the position of your teeth.
